Travels through dreams and time, my paintings

MJ Mayer

What can I write about my work that will communicate to someone else? My paintings should be experienced. Their content includes form, color, emotion, and various generating thoughts. I've heard it said that words are four times removed from reality. First is reality itself in the non-manifest, second are feelings, third are thoughts, and fourth come words. Of course, my paintings are usually created from a combination of the first three. My work is about bringing the non-manifest realm into a visible manifest realm. In essence, another language. Everything good and positive that we as human beings think, feel, and know, I wish to express. In this way my paintings are universal. There is often an element of earth, sky, and sea. We are bound to this earth by our bodies but we choose what we create our lives to be from the non-manifest. And as we choose to think and feel, we live, are, and become. My work carries with it the positive energy with which I've created it. They are a much truer language that the words I may speak, intuition expressed, they are soul mirrors.

In all of my travels one common factor I've observed throughout Mankind is that regardless of any economic factors we all need the same basic requirements for a happy life. These are food, shelter, clothing, love, and ART. These basics in the life of mankind are as ancient and eternal as mankind itself.

About MJ Mayer

MJ. Mayer was born in 1960 in New Jersey, USA. She studied at Montclair State college and later at Art Colleges in New York and Florida.

At an early age she had the opportunity to present experimental work to the public through various exhibitions. At 25, she undertook extensive study tours to various European countries. Later her travels continued to Canada, Australia and in 1991 to Japan. All these created long lasting Impressions in her painting style and have influenced her work to various new materials and papers.

Her work is spontaneous, almost impulsive, directed from an inner point. She understands the development of self-dynamic, yet, is able to give a concept and structure to her works, including colour harmony, portraying lightness and creating the space for playful elements.

In 1990, she participated in the annual Hortt Exhibition at the Ft. Lauderdale Museum of Art. Out of 3000 entries, Mayer's work was chosen to be among the top 100 best by the curator of the Hirshorn Museum, Smithsonian Institue, Washington, D.C.
